Crazy Day.
Rough start this morning with Ashlyn really not doing well.
As I'm learning, things are happening very fast and we are re-evaluating things every few hours.
We'll start with the so-so....Ashlyn is fighting, and doing somewhat better this evening. The chest tube has extracted about 20cc's of fluid out of the perfusion near her right lung, and she has stabilized despite her various issues. She got a 2nd round of surfactant (that lovely stuff that helps lungs grow) and she seemed to respond well to it. The doctor says "She is stable and incrementally better than she was this morning..." Man was it bleak this morning. Glad its a bit better now....She has a tough fight ahead of her, but she is going to do this.
Better news! Hanna had a good day...Really good. She got off the intubator, and is now on the C-PAP machine. This represents a lower level of oxygen needs, and she is now breathing somewhat on her own! YAY! Even better, she had her first feeding just now (Mom's breast milk) given through her feeding tube down her throat, and is hopefully pleased. She had a nice wet diaper, and her first micro POO! Just a little Meconium, but enough to know that the plumbing system is starting to work. This is GREAT news!
